The University of Jos has rescheduled its examinations earlier slated for Monday and Tuesday following renewed security concerns in parts of Plateau State.
The decision comes in the wake of a Sunday night attack by gunmen on residents of Angwan Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area, which heightened tensions within and around the university community.
In a statement issued on Monday, the institution’s Deputy Registrar, Information and Public Relations, Emmanuel Madugu, said the Vice Chancellor approved the postponement as a precautionary measure to safeguard students and staff.
“The Vice Chancellor has directed that all examinations scheduled for Monday and Tuesday be rescheduled,” he said.
“This decision is in view of the attack on Angwan Rukuba and the tension it has generated in nearby areas.”
Madugu urged members of the university community to remain vigilant and limit movement to only essential activities.
“We advise staff and students to stay alert, avoid unnecessary movements, and promptly report any suspicious activities or security breaches to the university’s security unit,” he added.
The development follows confirmation by the Plateau State Government that the attack resulted in casualties and injuries.
In response to the incident, authorities imposed a 48-hour curfew on Jos North Local Government Area to restore calm and prevent further breakdown of law and order.
University management has assured students that new dates for the affected examinations will be communicated in due course.
