England manager,Thomas Tuchel, has expressed his concern over Noni Madueke after the Arsenal winger appeared to sustain a serious injury.
Madueke left Wembley with his left leg in a brace, sparking fresh worries for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.
The 21-year-old seemed to hurt his knee following a challenge by Uruguay’s Rodrigo Aguirre, forcing him off before halftime.
Tuchel admitted he is anxious about the situation and hopes the injury is not severe. Speaking to the Mirror, he said: “I’m worried, of course. Very sad and upset and hopefully it’s not a big injury.”
The England boss also criticized VAR for not intervening following the strong tackle inside the Uruguay penalty area. He added: “It was the tackle. I think it was on the edge, the tackle, within the box. But they didn’t check it.”
Despite the setback, Tuchel praised Madueke’s display prior to the injury, highlighting his energy and readiness as he competes with West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen for a spot in the World Cup squad. Tuchel said: “He started well, he was full of energy, he was ready to go.”
