Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun, have rescued three health workers abducted from a primary health centre in Akure, alongside a father and his teenage son kidnapped in a separate incident along Oda Road.
The Corps Commander of Amotekun in the state, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, confirmed the rescue on Saturday, noting that the operations were carried out in the early hours of the day following coordinated efforts with security personnel.
According to him, the first operation led to the rescue of a 45-year-old man and his 15-year-old son who were abducted on Friday evening in the Pelebe area.
He explained that the victims were freed after a fierce exchange with the kidnappers.
“The father and his son were kidnapped between about 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Friday,” Adeleye said.
“Our operatives engaged the kidnappers and successfully rescued them around 1:00 a.m. after intense confrontation.”
In a separate operation, Amotekun also rescued three nurses who were taken from a government-owned primary health centre in the Oke Ijebu area of Akure in the early hours of Saturday.
Adeleye confirmed that the health workers were recovered around 4:30 a.m. and have since been placed under medical observation.
“The three health workers abducted earlier were rescued at about 4:30 a.m. and are currently receiving care at our facility,” he added.
Eyewitness accounts from the health centre indicated that the attackers invaded the facility around 2:00 a.m., arriving in a bus and forcefully taking away the staff on duty while some other workers managed to escape.
The security agency assured residents that efforts to curb kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state remain ongoing, urging members of the public to support security agencies with timely and credible information to strengthen community safety.
Authorities say investigations and follow-up operations are continuing to track down the attackers.
