The Plateau State Police Command has arrested several armed robbery suspects, including individuals accused of acting as informants for bandits, during a series of intelligence-led operations across the state.

The police also recovered three locally fabricated AK-47 rifles and other dangerous weapons, highlighting what authorities described as a major breakthrough in efforts to curb crime.

Parading the suspects and recovered items before journalists in Jos on Saturday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, commended residents for providing useful information that aided the operations.

“We want to thank our partners out there for believing in us, for trusting in us, and sharing information that has led to the removal of these firearms,” he said.

Ewah noted that the successes recorded by the command reflect its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, while also stressing the importance of community collaboration in policing.

“We are open to criticism because it is only when you are criticised that you know where you are not doing well,” he added.

The CP disclosed that some of the suspects were arrested in Langtang South following a complaint by a victim, prompting swift action by the Divisional Police Officer in collaboration with the Armed Robbery Section of the Criminal Investigation Department.

According to him, the operation led to the recovery of three locally fabricated AK-47 rifles, two locally made revolvers, pistols, and rubber guns allegedly used in criminal activities.

He attributed the recoveries to credible and actionable intelligence from members of the public, noting that such cooperation remains vital in tackling insecurity.

Ewah further revealed that some of the suspects were linked to kidnapping and banditry through the provision of information to criminal groups, adding that all those arrested would be charged to court.

“The suspects will be prosecuted, and the court will determine the legality of the firearms recovered from them,” he stated.

The commissioner also praised the collaboration between the police and the Plateau State Ministry of Justice, particularly the Attorney General, for ensuring diligent prosecution of criminal cases.

He acknowledged the role of the media in highlighting police activities and called for sustained cooperation to enhance security in the state.

During the briefing, the recovered weapons and other exhibits were displayed to journalists, as the command reassured residents of its determination to rid Plateau of criminal elements and maintain law and order.
