Saudi Arabian authorities have officially declared Friday, March 20, 2026, as the day for the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr, following the non-sighting of the crescent moon.

The announcement was made on Wednesday via HaraminInfo’s verified social media platforms, indicating the conclusion of Ramadan will extend by one more day.

“The crescent moon has not been sighted in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, Eid-al-Fitr will be observed on Friday, March 20, 2026,” the statement read.

The message also included prayers for Muslims observing the holy month, urging continued devotion in its final moments.

“May Allah grant us the opportunity to maximise the remaining period of Ramadan in acts that please Him, accept our fasting and عبادات, and allow us to witness many more in good health,” it added.

With Saudi Arabia’s declaration setting the tone for many Muslim countries, attention has now shifted to Nigeria, where the official announcement rests with the Sultan of Sokoto, who is the spiritual leader of Nigerian Muslims.

As of the time of filing this report, Nigerians are awaiting confirmation from the Sultan on the sighting of the moon, which will determine the date for Eid-el-Fitr celebrations across the country.

Eid-el-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting, prayer, and reflection observed by millions of Muslims worldwide.
