FIFA has fined the Nigeria Football Federation 1,000 Swiss francs and the DR Congo Football Association 5,000 Swiss francs after disciplinary incidents during their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification clash on November 16, 2025.
In its latest disciplinary overview of World Cup qualifying matches, FIFA said both federations committed separate offences during the encounter between the two African nations.
Nigeria’s sanction followed a breach relating to order and security at matches after spectators were reported to have thrown objects during the game. The act falls under Article 17 and Article 17.2.b of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.
DR Congo received the heavier fine after its supporters were found to have used laser pointers or similar electronic devices during the match, an offence that contravenes Article 17.2.d of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.
FIFA noted that disciplinary sanctions are determined based on the circumstances of each case and may still be subject to appeal.
The world football governing body added that the summary of sanctions released publicly is mainly intended to inform the media, while the full legal decisions are formally communicated to the federations involved.
