China has called for an immediate ceasefire and renewed diplomatic engagement as hostilities in the Middle East continued into a third day.
Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stressed the need to halt military operations and prevent the conflict from widening.
“The most pressing priority is to stop the fighting and avoid further escalation,” Mao said. “We urge all parties to exercise restraint and pursue a solution through dialogue and negotiation.”
The renewed violence follows coordinated strikes by Israel and the United States on targets in Iran, including locations in Tehran.
The escalation has heightened fears of a broader regional crisis.
Mao confirmed that one Chinese national was killed in Tehran amid the strikes.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of a Chinese citizen and are closely following the situation,” she said, adding that Beijing is taking steps to protect its nationals in the affected areas.
China reiterated its longstanding position that disputes in the region should be resolved through diplomatic channels rather than military confrontation.
“As the situation remains volatile, the international community should work collectively to de-escalate tensions and promote peace and stability in the region,” Mao added.
