The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has exposed what appears to be a child trafficking scheme operating under the guise of an orphanage in Abuja’s Saburi area.
The operation came to light following a petition submitted on January 29, 2026, by concerned members of the Saburi community to the Office of the Commissioner of Police, who highlighted suspicious activities linked to the facility.
“Acting swiftly on the complaint, the Command commenced a discreet and thorough investigation into the matter,” the police said in a statement.
Early findings suggest that the orphanage specifically targeted families from rural areas, offering promises of education and a better life in the city. Authorities believe the scheme may have facilitated the movement of children to other locations across the country.
To date, 21 of the 46 children associated with the orphanage have been rescued and are currently undergoing procedures for safe reunification with their families.
Police continue efforts to trace the remaining children and bring all perpetrators to justice.
The FCT Police Command has called on parents and guardians to remain vigilant, cautioning that “not all offers of sponsorship or educational opportunities are genuine.”
The Command also praised the Saburi community for their cooperation and urged others to report any suspicious activities via the emergency lines: 08028940883 and 08032003913.
“The safety and welfare of children remain a top priority,” the Command stated, reaffirming its dedication to protecting the most vulnerable members of society.
