Fire razes parts of Lagos airport

Fire razed parts of Terminal 1 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Monday, triggering panic as passengers undergoing arrival and departure formalities fled the building for safety.

Eyewitnesses said the blaze broke out within the terminal complex while travelers were being processed, causing thick smoke to billow across sections of the facility.

The sudden outbreak disrupted airport operations temporarily, with officials directing passengers and staff away from the affected areas to prevent injuries.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria confirmed the incident in an official statement, stating that it “wishes to inform the public of a fire outbreak at Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.”

Security personnel were also seen cordoning off the vicinity to ensure order and facilitate rescue operations.

FAAN assured the public that “No loss of life has been recorded,” noting that efforts were ongoing to fully extinguish the fire and assess the extent of damage to airport infrastructure.

It added that “Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available,” as investigations are expected to determine the cause of the incident and evaluate its impact on flight schedules.
