UCL Playoffs: Mbappe demands action over Vinicius’ alleged racial abuse

Kylian Mbappe has demanded strict action against Benfica’s Gianluca Prestianni following an alleged racial abuse incident involving Vinicius Jr on Tuesday night.

Real Madrid secured a 1-0 victory over Jose Mourinho’s side at Estadio da Luz, thanks to a spectacular strike from the Brazilian winger that found the top corner.

However, celebrations quickly turned sour as Vinicius Jr’s goal celebration sparked anger in the stadium.

Tensions escalated further when Vinicius Jr briefly walked off the pitch after Prestianni allegedly made a comment behind his shirt.

The match was paused for 10 minutes before resuming, but the incident has already generated widespread attention.

After full-time, Mbappe was vocal about the incident and insisted that the Benfica player must face consequences.

“Prestianni should never play in the Champions League again,” he told Tribuna (via GIVEMESPORT).

“I asked Vini what he wanted us to do. He told me, ‘Yes, we were going to leave the field.’

“They whistled at us because the fans didn’t hear what they told us. We have to do something; we can’t allow this. I hope measures are taken. We have to set an example for all the children who look up to us; there are things we can’t accept.”

Mbappe continued: “I’m not saying I’m perfect, but I don’t let that kind of thing slide. This player is young. How can you say these things on a football pitch?”

He also shared what he believes Prestianni told his teammate, “The Benfica player wearing no.25 (Prestianni), I won’t say his name because he doesn’t deserve it…. he puts his shirt over his mouth to say, ‘Vini is a monkey’ five times.

“I heard it… this player does not deserve to play in the Champions League.”
