The Osun State Fire Service has disclosed that property valued at about N5.42bn was destroyed in fire outbreaks across the state between January and December 2025.
Data obtained from the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday showed that the service responded to 101 fire incidents within the period, alongside several emergency-related calls.
Speaking on the statistics, the Assistant Director of Operations of the agency, Ibrahim Adekunle, said the service also handled special service and false alarm cases during the year.
“Between January and December 2025, we responded to 101 fire calls, 13 special service calls and two false alarms across the state,” he said.
Adekunle added that three fatalities were recorded from fire outbreaks within the year, noting that the deaths occurred in March, July and August.
He explained that November recorded the highest number of incidents.
“Sixteen fire outbreaks were recorded in November, which was the highest in the year, while January and February followed with 15 incidents each,” he stated.
Despite the losses, Adekunle noted that the fire service succeeded in saving property worth over N134bn during various rescue operations.
He attributed most of the fire outbreaks to negligence and preventable human actions, urging residents to adopt safety precautions.
“Many of these incidents were caused by human error. People must be careful with open flames and ensure electrical appliances are switched off and unplugged before leaving their homes,” he advised.
The fire service reiterated the need for residents to observe basic safety practices and promptly alert emergency responders to minimise damage during fire incidents.
