Army deploys troops to curb fresh attack in Plateau

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has ordered the immediate deployment of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion to Plateau State as part of renewed efforts to tackle rising insecurity in the region.

According to a statement released on Tuesday by Captain Chinonso Oteh, the Media Information Officer for Operation Enduring Peace, the special forces unit has already arrived in Plateau.

The Army described the deployment as a decisive step that could “significantly change the security landscape” amid recent attacks.

“The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved the immediate deployment of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion of special forces to Plateau State,” the statement read.

The troops were received at the Headquarters of 3 Division by the General Officer Commanding, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, who was represented by Brigadier General Senlong Sule. He charged the unit to carry out their mission with determination.

“He urged the troops to be decisive and ruthless in offensive operations against terrorists,” the statement added.

The deployment follows renewed violence in early 2026. On February 7, four people, including a woman, were reportedly killed by suspected Fulani militia in Ding’ak village of Bokkos LGA, just a day after warnings of potential attacks circulated in the community.

Major General Oyinlola appealed to residents not to panic as more troops and equipment move into the state.

He thanked locals for their cooperation and encouraged them to provide “reliable and timely intelligence” to support ongoing military actions aimed at restoring peace.
