Pep Guardiola remains confident that Manchester City can still win the Premier League title, even though they trail leaders Arsenal by six points.
City will resume their league campaign on Sunday with a tough trip to Anfield to take on reigning champions Liverpool.
Guardiola’s side missed the chance to reduce the gap last weekend after throwing away a two-goal lead in a 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur.
The Citizens could fall nine points behind the Gunners if Arsenal defeat Sunderland at the Emirates on Saturday.
Despite the situation, Guardiola insists the title race is far from over.
“14 games is a lot in the Premier League, a lot can happen,” he said in his press conference on Friday. “In the Premier League last year, we were miles away from Liverpool, let’s see what happens until the end.”
The Spaniard also provided an update on the fitness of Bernardo Silva and John Stones.
“We don’t know [about Bernardo] yet, tomorrow training,” he said.
“John [Stones] made yesterday his first training with the team. Step-by-step he is coming back.”
In their last outing against Newcastle, Erling Haaland started on the bench, with Omar Marmoush taking his place and scoring twice.
Asked whether the Norwegian would return to the starting line-up, Guardiola kept his plans close to his chest.
“Always I said, Erling is the best striker in the world.
“I don’t know [if he will start]. We will see tomorrow. Always, I say Erling is the best.”
