Portugal eye friendly clash with Super Eagles

Portugal have proposed an international friendly against Nigeria’s Super Eagles as part of their build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The proposed match is scheduled for Saturday, June 6, with Lisbon expected to host the encounter.

According to the report, the football federations of Portugal and Nigeria have agreed to the fixture in principle, with final details yet to be concluded.

Although the Super Eagles failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, their impressive run at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco has increased their attractiveness to top international sides.

Nigeria’s strong performances under head coach Eric Chelle have made the team a desirable opponent for countries preparing for the mundial.

The proposed friendly would form part of Portugal’s World Cup preparations, while Nigeria are expected to use the game to fine-tune plans for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.

Portugal and Nigeria last met in a friendly in November 2022, when the Selecao recorded a 4-0 victory.

Bruno Fernandes scored twice in that match, with Gonçalo Ramos and João Mário also on the scoresheet.
