The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to maintaining a sustained deployment of troops and operational assets to tackle security challenges in Plateau State and other parts of the country.
Shaibu gave the assurance on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to the Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, in Jos, as part of his operational and familiarisation tour of Army formations in the state.
Speaking during the visit, the Army Chief said the military would continue to act professionally to counter security threats and safeguard lives and property.
“The Nigerian Army will continue to deploy its personnel and resources in a professional manner to mitigate security threats and protect lives and property. With collective efforts from all stakeholders, lasting peace on the Plateau is achievable,” Shaibu said.
In a statement issued by the Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the COAS also commended the Plateau State Government for its consistent support to the Nigerian Army, particularly the Armoured Corps, describing the state as a strategic partner and the home of the Corps.
Shaibu acknowledged the complexity of the security situation in the state but stressed that sustained collaboration, intelligence sharing and joint operations among security agencies and local stakeholders would produce positive outcomes.
Responding, Governor Mutfwang congratulated Shaibu on his appointment as the 25th Chief of Army Staff and wished him a successful tenure.
He praised the professionalism and sacrifices of Nigerian Army personnel, noting that despite multiple deployments across the country, the Army has continued to perform its constitutional duties effectively.
“Our people are grateful for the commitment of the Nigerian Army, especially the troops of Operation Enduring Peace, whose proactive deployment ensured peaceful Christmas and New Year celebrations in Plateau State,” Mutfwang said.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s support for both kinetic and non-kinetic security operations and called for sustained cooperation to address lingering security concerns in the state.
During the visit, the Army Chief also paid homage to the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, where he reiterated the Army’s resolve to fully restore peace across Plateau State.
The traditional ruler, in turn, pledged continued community support through youth sensitisation and engagement to consolidate the peace recorded so far.
The visit highlighted the importance of sustained civil–military cooperation among the Nigerian Army, state governments and traditional institutions as a critical pillar for lasting peace and national security.
