FIFA Rankings: S’Eagles rise to 26th after AFCON performance

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have surged to third place in Africa and 26th in the world in the latest FIFA Men’s World Rankings, released on Monday.

Nigeria made a remarkable leap of 12 spots, moving from 38th to 26th, following their strong showing at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where they finished third overall.

The team earned the highest point increase in the latest rankings (+79.09), reflecting their stellar performances at the continental tournament.

Under coach Eric Chelle, the Super Eagles won six of their seven matches, defeating Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Mozambique, Algeria, and Egypt, before narrowly falling to host nation Morocco on penalties in the semi-final.

The rise places Nigeria as Africa’s third-best team, trailing only AFCON champions Senegal, ranked 12th globally, and Morocco, eighth in the world. Algeria and Egypt follow in fourth and fifth positions on the continent.

At the global level, Spain, Argentina, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, Netherlands, Morocco, Belgium, and Germany occupy the top 10 spots in the FIFA rankings.
