AFCON: CAF suspends Attia, Mohsen for S’Eagles, Egypt third-place clash

The Confederation of African Football has handed Egypt a setback ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations third-place clash against Nigeria, suspending midfielder Marwan Attia and forward Salah Mohsen.

The disciplinary action comes in the wake of Egypt’s semi-final loss to Senegal.

Attia drew the ire of CAF after making a gesture implying referee bribery, while Mohsen was sanctioned for mocking Senegalese journalists.

Mohsen has made a single appearance for the Pharaohs in Morocco, captaining the side in their final group match against Angola.1

Attia, meanwhile, has contributed one goal and one assist across four appearances under coach Hossam Hassan.

Egypt now faces the Super Eagles at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca today, with kick-off scheduled for 5pm Nigerian time.
