Super Eagles are superior to Morocco, says ex-Djibouti coach

Former Djibouti head coach, Julien Mette, has tipped Nigeria’s Super Eagles as favourites ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations semi-final showdown with hosts Morocco on Wednesday.

Nigeria booked their place in the last four with an impressive 2–0 victory over Algeria in the quarter-finals, delivering a dominant performance that underlined their title credentials.

Morocco, on the other hand, also progressed with a 2–0 win over Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions.

In an interview with Foot RMC, Mette praised the Super Eagles for their tactical organisation and attacking variety, noting that they possess multiple ways to punish opponents, particularly on transitions and set pieces.

He also questioned Morocco’s heavy reliance on Ibrahim Diaz for creativity and goals, suggesting it could be a weakness at this stage of the tournament.

“Offensively, Nigeria is superior to Morocco. On the Moroccan side, there’s Brahim Diaz emerging, but if he goes out.

“Nigeria is capable of doing everything, killing you on the break, in structured attack, on set pieces.”
