Algeria head coach, Vladimir Petković, is confident the Desert Foxes can halt Nigeria’s charge when both sides clash in Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final at the Grande Stade de Marrakech.
The North Africans face Éric Chelle’s Super Eagles with both teams maintaining a perfect record in the tournament. Nigeria, however, boast the most potent attack so far, having scored 12 goals and conceded four.
The Super Eagles’ firepower has been driven by impressive performances from Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Akor Adams and Alex Iwobi, all of whom have caught the eye in Morocco.
Petković, nonetheless, remains unfazed by Nigeria’s attacking strength, stressing that Algeria possess the belief and quality to emerge victorious.
“The most important thing is the state of mind. It all starts from there, and from that point of view, we are irreproachable. We have the reliability and the quality,” Petković told reporters in Marrakech.
“Tomorrow, we need to be just as good defensively as offensively. That will be paramount. All the details will matter against Nigeria. Nothing should be left to chance. We have the quality. We believe in ourselves and we just have to play a big game.”
