AFCON: Somali ref to officiate S’Eagles, Algeria clash

Somali referee, Omar Artan, has been appointed to officiate the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final clash between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Algeria.

Artan is widely regarded as one of Africa’s top referees and is among those selected to represent the continent at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The experienced official previously handled Algeria’s group-stage encounter against Mauritania at the 2023 AFCON, earning commendations for his performance.

Nigeria booked their place in the last eight with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Mozambique in the round of 16, while Algeria edged past the Democratic Republic of Congo 1-0 to secure their quarter-final ticket.
