France coach Deschamps tips Egypt, Cameroon, Morocco for AFCON title

France head coach, Didier Deschamps, has named Cameroon, Morocco and Egypt as leading contenders for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, citing their quality and depth of talent.

Speaking to Asharq Sports, via Afrik-Foot, Deschamps said he closely follows AFCON and believes the traditional heavyweights remain strong favourites because of the calibre of players they possess.

“I watch – not entire matches – but I obviously follow quite a few AFCON games,” Deschamps told Asharq Sports as per Afrik-Foot.

According to the World Cup–winning coach, the same nations are often tipped at major tournaments, much like the FIFA World Cup, although surprises are always possible.

“The favourites are often the same teams. “It’s like a World Cup – we always talk about the same nations. There can be surprises, of course, but the strongest African teams are there, with very, very good players who play for top clubs.

“I don’t want to make anyone jealous. I respect all African teams, and may the best one win.”

When asked to be more specific, Deschamps eventually named his top picks, saying: “Egypt, Cameroon, Morocco… everyone.”
