There was minimal activity in many government offices across Osogbo, the Osun State capital, on Friday as public servants resumed work for the 2026 calendar year, according to observations by the News Agency of Nigeria.
NAN reported that several government offices had not fully reopened for official duties, with many departments yet to record full staff presence.
A visit around the city also revealed low patronage at most banking halls, as only a handful of customers were seen entering or exiting the facilities.
Federal Government offices in the state capital were largely quiet, with security officers appearing to be the only personnel on duty at several locations.
At the Osun State Government Secretariat in Abere, only a limited number of workers were present, while many offices remained sparsely occupied.
Speaking with NAN, a staff member at the secretariat, Mr Waheed Alabi, explained that many workers who were absent were still on their way back from their hometowns within the state.
“Those not yet around are returning gradually. Most of them travelled within Osun and are making their way back to resume work,” he said.
Another worker, Mrs Adebimpe Olakitan, noted that while some staff would return later in the day, others were expected to resume fully on Monday.
She added that when work resumption coincides with a Friday, it is common for senior officers and other workers to delay full engagement until the following week.
Olakitan expressed hope for the year ahead, praying for a better 2026 for Nigerians and for the government to successfully address the nation’s challenges.
