Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has announced his decision to formally join the Accord Party, aligning politically with his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The singer made the disclosure on Tuesday via his verified account on X, stating that he would travel to Osogbo, the Osun State capital, to collect his party membership card.
“I will be in Osun to pick up my Accord Party membership card at Imole House, Osogbo,” Davido wrote in a post that quickly attracted widespread attention online.
Davido’s move comes weeks after Governor Adeleke adopted the Accord Party as his new political platform ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election.
The governor officially announced his defection earlier this month during a ceremony at the Government House, Osogbo, attended by national and state leaders of the Accord Party.
Explaining his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party, Adeleke cited internal challenges within the party at the national level.
“I joined the Accord Party as a platform to seek re-election in 2026 after extensive consultations with stakeholders and opinion leaders,” the governor said.
He added that the party’s ideology resonated with the priorities of his administration.
“We chose the Accord Party because its philosophy of welfarism aligns with our commitment to the welfare of citizens and workers in Osun State,” Adeleke stated.
Governor Adeleke confirmed that he had formally resigned from the PDP earlier in December, after submitting his resignation letter to party officials in Ede North Local Government Area.
Davido had earlier reacted to his uncle’s defection on social media by sharing the announcement with the caption, “Jeje…”.
The singer’s planned appearance at Imole House to obtain his membership card has generated significant public interest, highlighting the increasing influence of celebrities in Nigeria’s political space.
