Troops of the Nigerian Army, operating under Operation HADIN KAI, have killed 21 Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters in a targeted ambush on a terrorist logistics convoy in Borno State.
The operation took place in the Sojiri and Kayamla communities following intelligence of a planned coordinated attack on nearby settlements.
According to a statement posted on the Nigerian Army’s X handle on Sunday, “Acting on credible intelligence, our troops, in close coordination with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local vigilantes, swiftly mobilised to intercept the terrorists. Contact was made at about 1200 hours as the insurgents advanced.”
The statement added, “The troops immediately engaged the enemy in a fierce and sustained firefight. The terrorists attempted a rear-flanking manoeuvre, which was effectively repelled as our soldiers responded with superior firepower, dominating the encounter.”
Subsequent follow-up operations into the forest confirmed the neutralisation of 21 terrorists, while several others reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds. The army said operations were ongoing to determine further casualties and recover additional enemy supplies.
Items seized from the convoy included bicycles, assorted food items, medical supplies, clothing, detergents, torchlights, ammunition, and various weapons.
Lt. Col. Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North East), said, “These operations demonstrate the effectiveness of intelligence-driven joint security efforts in degrading terrorist networks and disrupting their supply chains.”
He further noted that between December 17 and 19, troops also discovered an improvised explosive device along the Damboa–Komala road and arrested two suspected logistics suppliers to Boko Haram fighters in Kirawa, Gwoza Local Government Area.
The army described its personnel as being in high morale, with fighting efficiency described as “strong and unwavering.”
