NAFDAC says recalled indomie vegetable flavour not sold in Nigeria

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has assured Nigerians that the Indomie Noodles Vegetable Flavour recently recalled in France is not available in the Nigerian market and did not originate from the country.

In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by the agency’s Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, NAFDAC explained that the recall was carried out by French authorities, Rappel Conso, due to the presence of undeclared allergens—milk and eggs—which could pose health risks to consumers with allergies or intolerances.

“The management of NAFDAC is aware of the recall of Indomie Noodles Vegetable Flavour by the French authority on account of undeclared allergens,” Adeyeye said.

“However, the product in question is not registered with NAFDAC and is not on sale in Nigeria.”

The clarification followed concerns raised by Nigerians after reports of the recall circulated online. NAFDAC noted that noodles are on Nigeria’s import prohibition list, making their importation into the country illegal and significantly reducing the likelihood of the affected product entering the local market.

As a precautionary measure, the agency said it had intensified surveillance nationwide.

“Surveillance has been directed across all zones and states, and our zonal directors and state coordinators have been mandated to mop up the product if found in any jurisdiction,” Adeyeye stated.

She added that all Indomie Instant Noodles and other noodle brands approved for sale in Nigeria are produced locally and only registered after meeting strict regulatory requirements, including compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice standards.

NAFDAC also disclosed that its Ports Inspection Directorate has been placed on heightened alert to prevent any attempt to import the recalled product into the country.

“Consumers are advised to exercise caution, discard the recalled product if found, and report any suspected sale or distribution to the nearest NAFDAC office or through our toll-free line,” the statement said.

Reaffirming the agency’s commitment to public health, Adeyeye said NAFDAC “remains proactive in safeguarding the health of the nation, including Nigerians who may travel abroad or purchase products online.”
