Bauchi to close major roads for Tinubu’s visit

The Bauchi State Government has announced the temporary closure and diversion of major roads within the state capital ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s condolence visit on Saturday.

The President is expected to visit Bauchi to commiserate with the family and followers of the late Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi.

The announcement was made in a statement released late Friday by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Governor Bala Mohammed, Mukhtar Gidado.

According to the statement, roads leading to the late cleric’s mosque and other strategic locations in the metropolis will be closed or diverted between 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to allow for security arrangements and traffic management during the President’s visit.

Gidado explained that the measure was necessary to ensure public safety and the smooth conduct of the presidential engagement.

“Members of the public are hereby informed that some major routes leading to the Sheikh’s mosque and other key locations will be temporarily closed or diverted from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. for traffic control and security purposes,” he said.

He stressed that the restrictions were not intended to inconvenience residents but to guarantee safety and order.

“These measures are purely for safety and effective traffic management during the President’s visit,” the statement added.

The state government urged residents to plan their movements in advance, comply with traffic directives, avoid restricted areas and cooperate with security agencies deployed across the metropolis.

Residents were also advised to conduct themselves peacefully and responsibly throughout the duration of the visit.

“The Bauchi State Government regrets any inconvenience this may cause and appreciates the understanding and cooperation of the general public,” Gidado stated.

He further noted that the visit was part of efforts to honour the legacy of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, describing the late cleric as a figure whose teachings and influence had a lasting impact on Bauchi State, Nigeria and the wider Muslim community.
Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, had earlier announced that President Tinubu would depart Abuja on Saturday for a three-state visit to Borno, Bauchi and Lagos states.
