The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has revealed that Electricity Distribution Companies installed more than 187,000 meters for new customers between September and October.
This was disclosed in the commission’s latest Metering Fact Sheet, published on its website in Abuja on Friday, which highlights ongoing efforts to reduce Nigeria’s metering deficit.
According to the report, 80,943 customers received meters in September, while installations increased to 106,822 in October.
The commission noted that this steady rise helped raise the national metering rate from 55.37 per cent to 56.07 per cent.
It further stated that “during the period under review, the number of active electricity customers rose slightly from 12.03 million to 12.07 million, while the total number of metered customers increased from 6.66 million to 6.77 million.”
Aba Power emerged as one of the standout performers, recording a jump in its metering rate from 69.49 per cent in September to 78.20 per cent the following month.
The factsheet also showed that Eko and Ikeja DisCos held their leading positions with metering rates consistently above 84 per cent.
Abuja and Ibadan DisCos continued to add new meters steadily, contributing significantly to the nationwide improvements.
However, the commission observed that several distribution companies were still lagging. As stated in the report, “DisCos with metering rates below 50 per cent, include Enugu, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, and Yola.”
