Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, have foiled an armed robbery attack, rescued abducted persons, and recovered weapons during multiple security operations in Taraba State.
The operations were carried out under the ongoing Operations Peace Shield and Zafin Wuta across different parts of the state.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, said soldiers swiftly responded to a distress call on December 6 after reports that armed robbers had blocked the Manya–Takum Road and dispossessed commuters of their belongings.
“Troops immediately mobilised and conducted a rapid clearance operation,” Muhammad said. “Upon sighting the advancing forces, the criminals fled in disarray, abandoning their weapons.”
He disclosed that a search of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, and three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
In another operation conducted on Sunday at Kufai Amadu, troops rescued two abducted men—identified as Yusuf Musa and Muhammed Umar—after they escaped from their captors.
According to the statement, the victims were initially stopped while trying to give directions before Yusuf Musa Danji and another suspect abducted them and led them toward New City in Kurmi Local Government Area.
“While two victims have been rescued, search operations are ongoing to locate and rescue the remaining abducted persons,” Muhammad added.
The army spokesperson further revealed that on Saturday, troops carried out a search operation in Garin Sambo, Tau Village, in Ardo Kola Local Government Area, where additional weapons and items were recovered.
Items found include two pump-action guns, 13 cartridges, two motorcycles, and four mobile phones. Two suspects, Baba Wura Sambo and Mallam Adamu Darda, were arrested and are currently in military custody for further investigation.
Commending the soldiers, the Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised their professionalism and swift response to security threats.
“The Brigade remains fully committed to securing all major highways and communities to ensure safe and unhindered movement, especially during the festive period,” Uwa said.
He also urged residents of Taraba State to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing timely and credible information to aid ongoing operations.
