Former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress and current representative of Edo North, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, has asserted that ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar lacks the competence to lead Nigeria.
Oshiomhole argued that Atiku’s failure to bring stability to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) undermines his claim of being capable of fixing the country.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the APC stalwart took aim at Atiku’s political record, insisting that despite his long-standing prominence in the PDP, he had not demonstrated the leadership needed to reposition the party.
“If Atiku as a former vice president under PDP could not fix PDP, he could not reconstruct it, he could not provide leadership and use his influence which he had built, how can you lay claim to fix Nigeria?” he asked.
His comments followed shortly after Atiku announced his membership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the coalition-backed platform he is expected to align with ahead of the 2027 elections.
Atiku confirmed his switch in a post on X, where he displayed his ADC membership card alongside the caption: “It’s official.”
Reacting to the development, Oshiomhole revisited Atiku’s previous exit from the APC, saying the former vice president dumped the ruling party because he failed to clinch its presidential ticket.
“He was once a member of the APC. He left because he lost the party’s presidential ticket,” the senator said.
“He went back to the PDP. He’s so much in love with the PDP at least for the purpose of contesting election. He could not build PDP. So, if Atiku can’t build PDP that made him Vice President, he can’t fix Nigeria,” Oshiomhole stated.
Atiku’s switch to the ADC comes after he resigned from the PDP in July, following protracted internal disputes within the party.
