Bauchi suspends four senior civil servants over alleged misconduct

The Bauchi State Civil Service Commission has suspended four senior officials over allegations of gross misconduct, as part of ongoing efforts to reform and strengthen discipline within the state workforce.

The suspension was announced in a statement issued on Friday by the commission’s Public Relations Officer, Saleh Umar, in Bauchi.

According to Umar, the decision was reached during the commission’s plenary session after reviewing allegations brought against the affected officers, all of whom are attached to the Bill and Melinda Gates College of Health Sciences and Technology, Ningi.

The officials include Director of Education and former Provost, Garba Hussaini; Deputy Director of Administration and Human Resources, Haruna Umar; Chief Executive Officer (Account) and Bursar, Umar Yusuf; and Chief Clerical Officer and Cashier, Mohammed Usman.

Umar stated that the officials were placed on 50 per cent salaries effective October 28, 2025, pending the outcome of a full investigation.

“The commission’s decision was taken to allow unhindered investigation into the allegations against the officers,” he said.

“They were accused of violating the Bauchi State Public Service Regulations 0327 (x) and (xxii), and were interdicted under rules 0329 (i), (ii), and (iii) to ensure a smooth process.”

He added that while disciplinary measures were being taken against some officers, the commission had also approved the promotion of 21 staff members across various grades, including Deputy Chief Librarians, Assistant Chief Librarians, Principal Librarians, and other senior positions in the state civil service.

Umar further quoted the commission’s chairman, Dr. Ibrahim Muhammad, as reaffirming the agency’s commitment to justice and due process.

“We will continue to uphold integrity, transparency, and fairness. It is unfortunate that some civil servants still display nonchalant attitudes toward disciplinary procedures,” the chairman said.

He advised all workers to familiarise themselves with civil service regulations to avoid sanctions.

The commission also referenced earlier disciplinary actions. On September 25, it dismissed two senior officers, Yusuf Ningi and Suleiman Ahmed, for alleged forgery and falsification of official documents — offences that violated Public Service Rule 0327 (ii, iii, and vi).

Umar noted that such decisions are necessary to “safeguard accountability and credibility within the state civil service.”
