Tennis legend, Roger Federer, has acknowledged that Rafael Nadal was truly deserving of his victory in the 2008 Wimbledon final, which ended Federer’s remarkable winning run at the All England Club.
The Swiss maestro had claimed five consecutive Wimbledon titles from 2003 to 2007 and was aiming for a sixth in 2008.
However, Nadal prevailed in a grueling match that lasted four hours and 48 minutes, winning 6-4, 6-4, 6-7, 6-7, 9-7. Having lost the previous two Wimbledon finals to Federer, Nadal gave everything to make history in this epic showdown.
Speaking to Tennis World, Federer reflected on the match and other career-defining moments, “I would like to play again the 2009 US Open final against Juan Martin.
“That was one of the matches I should not have lost, and it broke my US Open streak. Another streak ended at Wimbledon in 2008, but it had to be that way. Rafa deserved it so much,” Federer said.
