Ndidi cleared to play against DR Congo, CAF assures Nigerians

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has been cleared to feature in Sunday’s crucial World Cup playoff clash against the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Confederation of African Football has confirmed.

The clarification comes after widespread speculation that the Leicester City star would be unavailable for the match due to yellow-card accumulation.

In an update shared on the Super Eagles’ official X handle on Saturday, the team announced CAF’s position, stating that cautions received during the World Cup qualifying rounds do not carry over into the playoff stage.

According to the statement, “CAF has confirmed that Wilfred Ndidi is eligible to feature for the Super Eagles in Sunday’s playoff clash against DR Congo.

Ndidi played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s 4–1 semi-final victory over Gabon on Thursday. Wearing the captain’s armband, he delivered a commanding midfield performance and set up Chidera Ejuke for Nigeria’s second goal.

Speaking after the clarification, a team official who preferred not to be named said the update boosted morale ahead of the decisive match.

“It’s a huge relief. Ndidi’s presence in midfield is important for our structure and confidence,” the official said.
