Alex Iwobi is poised to reach a milestone, as he nears his 90th cap for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
The Super Eagles are set to face the Gabonese Panthers in the semi-final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs in Rabat on Thursday.
Iwobi is expected to be included in the starting eleven by head coach Eric Chelle.
Iwobi began his youth international career with England, earning 11 caps before switching allegiance to Nigeria in 2015.
He made his senior debut for the Super Eagles in a friendly against the Democratic Republic of Congo that same year.
Over time, the 29-year-old has cemented his place as one of Nigeria’s pivotal players.
He was included in Nigeria’s 23-man squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, featuring in all three group-stage matches as the Super Eagles bowed out early.
The former Arsenal midfielder made his Africa Cup of Nations debut at the 2019 tournament in Egypt, helping Nigeria secure third place.
He also played every match as the Super Eagles finished as runners-up at the 2023 AFCON finals in Côte d’Ivoire.
