Suspected members of the dreaded Lakurawa terrorist group have reportedly attacked a Nigeria Customs Service base in Maje, a community located in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
According to local sources, the assailants stormed the camp in large numbers on Saturday night, firing gunshots indiscriminately at officers on duty.
One Customs officer was said to have been killed in the assault before the attackers set the facility on fire.
“The terrorists came in numbers and started shooting sporadically. Everyone ran for safety,” a resident told The PUNCH
As of press time, both the Kebbi State Government and the Nigeria Customs Service had yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
Confirming the attack, the Public Relations Officer of the NCS, Kebbi State Command, Muhammad Tajudeen, said, “Yes, the attack actually happened, but you know it’s the doctor that can confirm if he is dead or not. We are currently at the hospital waiting for the doctor’s report. After that, I will let you know.”
It will be recalled that the same terrorist group had recently attacked Bagudo Local Government Area, during which the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Hon. Muhammad Sama’ila Bagudo, was abducted.
The lawmaker regained his freedom on Saturday night after spending a week in captivity.
