Security personnel at the Plateau State Specialist Hospital in Jos have apprehended a man identified as Charles for allegedly attempting to steal a patient’s vehicle within the hospital premises.
The incident occurred on Friday morning near the hospital’s Amenity Ward when Charles reportedly tried to unlock a Toyota Camry using a master key.
Unknown to him, the vehicle’s owner was still inside and immediately raised an alarm.
The alert prompted a swift response from the hospital’s security unit, who detained the suspect before handing him over to officers at the ‘A’ Division Police Station for further investigation.
Confirming the incident, the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Talatu Angi, praised the security team for their prompt action.
“The Plateau State Specialist Hospital Security Unit has once again demonstrated vigilance and professionalism in protecting lives and property within the hospital premises,” she stated.
According to her, the suspect was intercepted “thanks to the quick intervention of the security personnel on duty,” preventing what could have been a successful theft.
She added that the hospital remains committed to maintaining a safe environment for both patients and visitors.
“We urge members of the public, staff, and visitors to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement or individuals to the nearest security officer. Ensuring safety is a collective responsibility,” Angi added.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
