FRSC special marshals in Plateau seek security support amid rising attacks

The Plateau State Sector of the Federal Road Safety Corps Special Marshals has called for enhanced protection for its personnel in the face of increasing risks faced while carrying out traffic enforcement duties.

State Coordinator of the Special Marshals, Abayomi Adegbami, made the appeal on Saturday during the 2025 Special Marshals Sectoral Workshop held at the FRSC command headquarters in Jos.

Adegbami lamented that personnel often encounter dangerous situations on highways, which sometimes result in injuries and fatalities.

He said improved security measures were necessary to ensure both the safety of marshals and effective road safety operations.

“The chosen theme — Enhancing Security and Safety Strategies for Special Marshals — is timely and relevant,” Adegbami said.

“It reflects our collective commitment to strengthening preventive and defensive strategies during patrol operations, to ensure safer roads and save lives.”

Sector Commander, Olajide Mogaji, also underscored the crucial role Special Marshals play in maintaining order on the roads, noting that their safety must remain a priority.

“It is our responsibility to ensure road safety in our state and the country at large,” Mogaji stated.

“We will continue to work closely with the Special Marshals to achieve this objective for the benefit of all road users.”

Zonal Commanding Officer, Joseph Udoabba, added that collaboration between security agencies and Special Marshals was key in tackling emerging threats.

Representing the Deputy Corps Marshal, Special Duties and External Relations, Pauline Olaye, Assistant Corps Marshal Godwin Alphonsus emphasized equipping marshals with the right skills and resources.

“They must be adequately trained and supported to carry out their duties effectively and safely,” he said.

Chairman of the Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, commended the FRSC for improving road safety and integrating digital tools into traffic management. He also threw his weight behind discussions on arming FRSC personnel.

“We believe there is a need for enhanced security measures to tackle rising insecurity on Nigerian roads,” he said.

“The proposal to strengthen the capacity of FRSC personnel is timely, given the growing threats they face while ensuring the safety of others.”

The workshop, themed “Enhancing Security and Safety Strategies for Special Marshals’ Operations,” brought together stakeholders to discuss ways to improve road safety and protect frontline personnel in Plateau State.
