The newly appointed service chiefs appeared before the Senate on Wednesday for their official screening at the National Assembly.
Arriving at the National Assembly Complex around 10 a.m., they were accompanied by several senior military officers.
Originally slated for the following week, the Senate advanced the screening to Wednesday, October 29, after receiving a formal request from President Bola Tinubu.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the president’s correspondence on the floor, seeking confirmation of General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff.
Akpabio noted that the date adjustment was made “to allow the new military chiefs to assume their duties without delay.”
In his letter, President Tinubu appealed to the Senate to expedite the confirmation process to ensure “continuity and effective coordination within the nation’s security architecture.”
As earlier reported by Vanguard, Tinubu recently carried out a major shake-up in the military hierarchy, appointing General Olufemi Oluyede to succeed General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff.
Other new appointments include Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S. K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff.
