Lazio surged to within a point of Juventus in Serie A after Toma Basic’s early strike secured a 1-0 win over the Bianconeri, who extended their winless streak to eight games.
The defeat deepened the pressure on Juventus manager Igor Tudor, coming just days after a midweek loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League.
As a result, Juventus remain in eighth place in the Serie A standings.
The decisive moment came in the ninth minute at the Stadio Olimpico. Jonathan David’s misdirected header handed possession to Basic, whose long-range effort, aided by a Federico Gatti deflection, beat Mattia Perin and put Lazio ahead.
Juventus struggled to respond. Andrea Cambiaso’s effort went wide, while Francisco Conceicao’s shot flew over the bar, leaving the visitors with just one shot on target by halftime.
In the second half, Dusan Vlahovic saw a header hit the crossbar but was ruled offside, and Manuel Locatelli’s curling attempt was smartly saved by Ivan Provedel.
Lazio nearly doubled their advantage when Basic headed straight at Perin, but the result was never really in doubt. Juventus dominated possession but could not convert their chances, with Vlahovic missing their clearest opportunity.
Basic’s goal, clocked at eight minutes and 35 seconds, marked Lazio’s fastest strike against Juventus in Serie A since Giuseppe Favalli scored in the third minute back in March 1996.
The win continues Lazio’s strong home record against Juventus, remaining unbeaten in six of their last seven league encounters at the Olimpico, including the last four (three wins, one draw).
Juventus, meanwhile, have gone three Serie A matches without scoring for the first time since September 2024, now sitting just one point above Lazio.
