Iwobi becomes Nigeria’s all-time EPL appearance leader

Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi, has etched his name in English football history by becoming Nigeria’s all-time appearance leader in the Premier League.

The Fulham star achieved the remarkable feat on Saturday evening during his side’s narrow 1-0 loss to Arsenal at Craven Cottage.

The match marked Iwobi’s 299th Premier League appearance, a milestone that pushed him past former Newcastle United forward Shola Ameobi, who previously shared the record with him at 298 games.

Fittingly, the record-breaking outing came against Arsenal, the club where Iwobi began his professional career and made his Premier League debut nearly a decade ago, on October 27, 2015, against Swansea City.

Iwobi’s journey from a promising academy product at Arsenal to a dependable midfield figure in the top flight has been one of consistency, adaptability, and longevity.

Over the years, he has represented three Premier League clubs, Arsenal, Everton, and now Fulham, evolving from a lively winger into a versatile midfielder known for his intelligence and work rate.

Trailing Iwobi in Nigeria’s all-time Premier League appearance chart are Ameobi (298), Nwankwo Kanu (273), Yakubu Aiyegbeni (252), and John Obi Mikel (249). Collectively, these names form an illustrious list of Nigerians who have left a lasting mark on England’s top division.

At Fulham, Iwobi has become a key figure under manager Marco Silva, earning praise for his composure and tactical flexibility.

His ability to perform multiple roles across midfield has made him indispensable for the Cottagers.

Though his personal milestone was one to celebrate, the evening ended in frustration as Fulham’s unbeaten home run this season was halted by league leaders Arsenal.

The defeat leaves Fulham with seven points from their first four home games, while Arsenal extended their strong start to the campaign with five consecutive wins and the league’s tightest defence.

Iwobi’s latest milestone, however, underscores his quiet excellence, a testament to his resilience, professionalism, and enduring impact in one of the toughest leagues in world football.
