WCQ: Gabon ready for Super Eagles playoffs clash, says coach

Gabon’s national team coach, Thierry Mouyouma, has declared that his squad is prepared to face Nigeria in the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifying playoffs.

The clash between Nigeria and Gabon is set to be one of the semifinals in Morocco, with the victor set to take on either DR Congo or Cameroon, who meet in the other playoff fixture.

The Super Eagles secured their playoff spot with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Panthers ended the qualifying campaign with 25 points, registering eight wins, one draw, and a single loss.

Nigeria, on the other hand, scraped through with 17 points, thanks to a late strike from Frank Onyeka.

“To get 25 points and not qualify is hard to take. We are ready. It will be a good match to play (against Nigeria), and a good test for the 2025 Afcon,” Mouyouma told Sporting News Africa.

The African playoffs for the four best second-placed teams are scheduled to take place in Morocco from 13 to 16 November.
