Troops kill nine terrorists, rescue two hostage negotiators in Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have killed nine terrorists and rescued two men who were reportedly on their way to deliver ransom payments to insurgents in Magumeri and Gajiram areas of Borno State.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the spokesperson for Operation Hadin Kai, Lt. Col. Uba Sani, who said the operation was part of ongoing counter-terrorism efforts in the North-East.

According to Sani, the troops launched a fighting patrol on October 10, 2025, following credible intelligence on the movement of Boko Haram terrorists around Goni Dunari in Magumeri Local Government Area.

“Acting on reliable intelligence, troops moved swiftly to intercept the terrorists who were seen setting houses ablaze and terrorising locals,” Sani said.

“As the troops advanced, the insurgents attempted to flee towards Damjiyakiri village, but our men pursued them for about 92 kilometres.”

He explained that the troops eventually engaged the fleeing terrorists in a gun battle that lasted several hours, leading to the death of five insurgents while others escaped with gunshot wounds.

Recovered items included one AK-47 rifle with registration number 06798, five magazines (two loaded and three empty), 31 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a dagger, and a mobile phone.

“No casualties or equipment losses were recorded on the part of our troops,” Sani added.

In a separate operation, Sani said troops on motorcycles clashed with another group of Boko Haram fighters along the Gajiram–Bolori–Mile 40–Gajiganna axis near Zundur village.

“Four terrorists were neutralised during the exchange of fire, while others escaped into the surrounding bush,” he stated.

During the operation, troops rescued two men identified as Modu Kinnami (55) and Bukar (57), both residents of Guzamala Local Government Area, who were allegedly transporting ransom payments to the terrorists.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the insurgents had demanded ₦2 million and two new Tecno button phones for the release of a captive’s brother,” the spokesperson explained.

Troops recovered ₦4.35 million, two new Tecno phones, a blue pickup truck with registration number GUB 327 XA, and a 30-litre jerrycan of petrol from the scene.

Lt. Col. Sani assured that military operations are ongoing to sustain pressure on terrorist hideouts and deny them freedom of movement across the North-East.

“Our troops remain resolute and are maintaining aggressive patrols in all operational sectors to ensure peace and stability return to Borno and surrounding areas,” he affirmed.

The operation comes just a day after four soldiers were reportedly killed and five others injured during a terrorist attack on a military post in Ngamdu, along the Damaturu–Maiduguri Road in Kaga Local Government Area.
