Roma surged to the top of Serie A on Sunday, overturning an early deficit to secure a 2-1 victory at Fiorentina, sending a strong message to title rivals Napoli and AC Milan.
Moise Kean gave Fiorentina a lightning-quick lead in the 14th minute with a thunderous strike, but Roma responded before halftime through Matias Soule and Bryan Cristante to claim the advantage.
The win marks Roma’s third consecutive league victory, lifting Gian Piero Gasperini’s side to 15 points, three clear of defending champions Napoli, AC Milan, and Inter Milan.
Kean came close to doubling Fiorentina’s advantage in the 38th minute when his powerful shot rattled the post, while Roberto Piccoli nearly salvaged a point for the hosts with a late volley that hit the crossbar in the 74th minute.
Fiorentina remain winless, perched just above the relegation zone on three points.
Napoli and Milan have the opportunity to match Roma at the summit later on Sunday.
Napoli hosts struggling Genoa, buoyed by a 2-1 Champions League win over Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday, while Milan travels to Turin to face Juventus, who trail Roma by four points in fifth place.
Milan began the weekend atop the table on goal difference following a dramatic clash with Napoli last weekend.
