The Nigeria Table Tennis Federation has unveiled a 10-player roster for the 2025 International Table Tennis Federation African Championships, set to hold in Tunis, Tunisia, from October 12 to 19.
This year’s continental showpiece doubles as a qualifying event for the 2026 ITTF World Team Championships in London, which will commemorate 100 years since the inaugural edition was staged in the British capital in 1926.
Leading Nigeria’s charge in the men’s category is Africa’s number-one player, Quadri Aruna, alongside 2019 African Games gold medalist Olajide Omotayo.
They are joined by two-time West African champion Matthew Kuti, Taiwo Mati, and emerging star Abdulbasit Abdulfatai.
On the women’s side, veteran Ajoke Ojomu will captain a youthful lineup featuring Favour Ojo, Aishat Rabiu, Kabirat Ayoola, and Sukurat Aiyelabegan, all eager to make their mark on the continental stage.
The stakes are high, as the top nations in both the men’s and women’s categories will secure their tickets to London 2026.
Nigeria’s men will face stiff competition from defending champions Egypt, as well as Tunisia, Algeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Madagascar, Uganda, Ethiopia, South Africa, Angola, Cameroon, Congo Brazzaville, Benin Republic, DR Congo, and Morocco.
In the women’s event, Egypt and Nigeria remain the teams to beat, with strong challenges expected from Tunisia, Ghana, Benin Republic, Ethiopia, Botswana, Côte d’Ivoire, Uganda, Madagascar, DR Congo, Cameroon, South Africa, Angola, and Algeria.
