Kano secures school feeding, investment partnerships at UNGA80

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, says the state has secured fresh commitments on school feeding, health interventions, and foreign investments following its participation at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, High-Level Week in New York.

The governor, represented by Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II and the Director-General of Kan-Invest, Muhammad Halliru, joined global leaders and development partners at key events, including the Global Compact: Unstoppable Africa and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Goalkeepers Event.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, Yusuf said the engagements opened doors for strategic collaborations with international partners.

“We are working with credible global actors like Wawira Njiru, founder of Food4Education, to access African Development Bank funding that will strengthen school feeding programmes in Kano,” the governor noted.

He explained that his administration is committed to positioning Kano as Nigeria’s leading investment hub, stressing that a new long-term roadmap would soon be launched.

“In the coming weeks, we will unveil a five-year multi-sectoral investment strategic plan designed to attract investors, boost revenue generation, and accelerate development in critical sectors such as education, healthcare, and agriculture,” Yusuf added.

The governor also highlighted the significance of Kano’s participation at the global forum, describing it as a platform to showcase the state’s potential to the world.

“These engagements reaffirm our commitment to bringing Kano into global conversations on sustainable development and ensuring our people benefit directly from international partnerships,” he said.

The development comes weeks after the Federal Government announced plans to expand the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme to reach nearly 50 million primary school pupils by 2026.
