Five die in Ondo road crash

No fewer than five people lost their lives in a fatal road accident on Sunday along the Akure–Ado Ekiti expressway, near Ita Ogbolu in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The Federal Road Safety Corps, confirmed the crash on Monday, explaining that it involved a truck and a commercial bus.

Ondo State FRSC Sector Commander, Mr. Samuel Ibitoye, said preliminary investigations showed that speeding on the under-construction road caused the collision.

He urged motorists to exercise caution, warning that reckless driving remains a major cause of avoidable fatalities on highways.

A video shared on Facebook by eyewitness Bola Awofisayo showed lifeless bodies of some of the victims laid by the roadside, while the driver of the bus appeared trapped inside one of the vehicles.

The FRSC boss reiterated the need for strict adherence to traffic regulations. “We are appealing to road users to always be mindful of traffic rules and regulations while driving. Overspeeding is dangerous and can cut short lives in seconds,” he added.
