Super Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu, netted a brace to inspire Trabzonspor to a dramatic 4-3 win over Fatih Karagumruk in the Turkish Super Lig on Saturday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Nigerian forward now shares the league’s top scorer spot with five goals.
Trabzonspor ended a brief winless streak in thrilling fashion, despite a late surge from Karagumruk, who struck twice in stoppage time to set up a tense finale.
The visitors opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Felipe Augusto converted a Wagner Pina assist. Karagumruk quickly responded nine minutes later through Tiago Cukur, assisted by Sam Larsson.
Onuachu restored Trabzonspor’s lead in the 35th minute with a strike set up by Wagner Pina and then doubled his tally from the penalty spot in first-half stoppage time.
Danylo Sikan added a fourth goal after the break, assisted by Tim Jabol-Folcarelli, seemingly putting the match out of reach.
However, Chelsea loanee David Datro Fofana, who had impressed off the bench last weekend, scored twice in injury time to make it 4-3.
His first came in the 90+2nd minute from a Berkay Ozcan assist, followed by a second deep into stoppage time, but Trabzonspor managed to hold on for the crucial win.
Onuachu was substituted in the 90th minute after a commanding performance that has seen him score 60 percent of Trabzonspor’s goals this season.
The victory will boost Trabzonspor, who had just two points from their previous three matches, including a frustrating 1-1 draw against Gaziantep, where Onuachu also scored.
Meanwhile, Karagumruk’s struggles continue, with five defeats from six games and just one home goal scored, though Fofana’s late heroics offer a glimpse of hope.
Trabzonspor’s win also extends their recent dominance over Karagumruk, marking six unbeaten matches against the Istanbul side, including five wins and one draw in their last five encounters.
