Brighton hail Nnadozie over Ballon d’Or fourth place finish

Brighton and Hove Albion have hailed Nigerian shot-stopper Chiamaka Nnadozie after she secured fourth place in the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year category at the 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony.

Nnadozie, who was among the final five nominees, saw the award go to Hannah Hampton, the England and Chelsea goalkeeper.

Germany’s Ann-Katrin Berger of Gotham FC finished second, while Spain and Barcelona’s Cata Coll came third.

The fifth spot was taken by Arsenal and Netherlands’ number one, Daphne van Domselaar.

Celebrating their star player’s recognition, Brighton wrote on the club’s women’s X account, “Chiamaka Nnadozie is fourth in the #TrophéeYachine rankings at this year’s #BallonDor! Congratulations on your nomination, Chiamaka!”

It was also a memorable night for Nigerian football on the sidelines, as Super Falcons coach Justine Madugu finished fourth in the Women’s Coach of the Year category.

The award went to Dutch tactician Sarina Wiegman, who guided England to European Championship glory.

Madugu, meanwhile, was recognised for steering Nigeria’s Super Falcons to a record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco.
