The Dangote Refinery has announced that its long-awaited free fuel distribution scheme will officially commence on Monday, September 15.
According to a statement from the Dangote Group spokesman, Anthony Chiejina, the initiative will initially cover Lagos, the South West, the Federal Capital Territory (Abuja), Kwara, Delta, Rivers, and Edo States.
He further revealed that the refinery has reduced petrol prices to N841 per litre in Lagos and the South West, and N851 per litre in Abuja, Edo, Kwara, Rivers, and Delta States.
“We are starting the free fuel distribution scheme on Monday. We will start with Lagos and the South West, Abuja, Kwara, Delta, Rivers and Edo States. There will be a drop in price effective on Monday when the free distribution starts,” the statement said.
Originally slated to begin in August, the programme faced delays due to logistical challenges in China. However, the refinery has now received over 1,000 trucks to facilitate the launch.
As additional trucks arrive in Nigeria, more states are expected to benefit from the free fuel initiative.
In a separate statement on Thursday, Dangote highlighted its large-scale deployment of CNG-powered trucks aimed at strengthening logistics and reducing costs across the domestic fuel distribution chain.
“Even though we recently noticed how the CNG prices doubled a week ago, that will not deter our 10,000 CNG truck roll-out this year,” the company said.
