Grimsby Town manager, David Artell, has described his side’s famous victory over Manchester United as the reward for months of hard work and dedication.
The League Two outfit stunned the Red Devils in the Carabao Cup second round on Wednesday night, delighting their home supporters with a dramatic win.
First-half goals from Charles Vernam and Tyrell Warren put the Mariners in control, but United fought back through Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire to force penalties.
In the tense shoot-out, Mbeumo missed the decisive spot-kick, handing Grimsby a remarkable 12-11 triumph.
Reflecting on the night, Artell told ITV, “This is an accumulation of 15 months, 18 months, all encompassed in one night. Look, they’re an unbelievable team, Manchester United.
“They’ve got an unbelievable manager and they’re on the right track, you can see that.
“We’ve got an unbelievable group of players as well, who want to play for this football club, live in the area and want to get better every day.”
