Brentford secured a place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup after defeating League One side Reading 2-1 at the Select Car Leasing Stadium on Tuesday.
Callum Wilson opened the scoring for the visitors after just three minutes, calmly converting Dango Ouattara’s pass to register his second goal since joining Brentford in the summer.
Fabio Carvalho doubled Brentford’s advantage in first-half stoppage time, finishing past Reading goalkeeper Joel Pereira after being played through by Ouattara.
The goal marked Carvalho’s return to competitive action after the midfielder suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in November 2025.
Reading improved after the interval and pulled one back in the 72nd minute when Paudie O’Connor headed into the bottom corner from a set-piece, with Cameron Savage providing the assist.
The hosts pushed for an equaliser late in the game, but Brentford held on to progress to the next round.
Reading also had a stoppage-time effort ruled out for a foul.
Brentford, who were quarter-finalists in the previous two seasons, will discover their fourth-round opponents when the draw is conducted on Wednesday.
